Bat Cave — Bat cave is just south of the junction of US-64 and US-74A. Though the rest of the area is in Rutherford County, Bat Cave is barely in Henderson County. And it isn't even a wide spot in the road! But the residents don't mind; the best part of Bat Cave is well hidden. You want mountain land? Here it is. The Broad river rages southward along the highway helping the create that special atmosphere that marks Bat Cave. The mobs of tourists are on their way to Chimney Rock (next door). The smarter ones realize that what they are passing is the tranquility they really drove out here to find. Real estate agent in Bat Cave:

Etowah — Etowah is a very nice, residential community astraddle US-64 just west of Hendersonville. The large-scale residential developers would really like to take over the area but their intrusion has been fought with a vengeance and with considerable success. Here you'll find nice homes with large, well landscaped lots and with residents very proud of their community. Real estate agents in Etowah:

Flat Rock — Certainly there is a large, flat rock somewhere around here after which the 'Village of Flat Rock' was named. I could find neither the rock nor anyone who knew anything about it. Some one said it was the top of the hill behind Connemara, the National Historic Site and home place of Carl Sandburg just across from the ancient looking Flat Rock Playhouse. Drive in any direction, though, and what you will find are beautiful but, unobtrusive homes occupied by quiet, contented families. And that, folks, is Flat Rock. Fletcher — Fletcher is in the midst of the throes of renewal. The widening of US-25 — which runs right through the middle of downtown — from 2 to 5 lanes required drastic changes. Now new parks, new greenways, new everything, is the order of the day. Fletcher, like Arden next door, is airport territory and that brings businesses — lots of them. Airport Road is constantly changing its face through the addition of new mercantile centers — even a new Target center. Real estate properties are increasing in value, rapidly, so the time to invest is now...quickly! Real estate agents in Fletcher:

Hendersonville — While Fletcher has adopted modernization (with the exception of a few, isolated, historic areas), Hendersonville appears firmly committed to preserve its historic features even to the point of a very expensive restoration of its courthouse. (Yes, it built a new one but the old one with its gold dome is the psychological town center. Street dancing is a summers right and is enjoyed even by non-residents. Street fairs, especially the annual Apple Festival, have become nationally famous. And real estate has become the prime target of the hundreds of 'immigrants' from the frozen North. True, many are retirees but, though they could afford to live anywhere; they come to Henderson County and Hendersonville. Real estate agents in Hendersonville:

Horse Shoe
— Horse Shoe is a community in search of an identity. They thought they had
one but then Mills River up and incorporated (which isn't without great
challenges in North Carolina). More about that under Mills River. Real estate agent in Horse Shoe:

Mills River
— Brevard, way out in Transylvania County, didn't want to be connected to
anybody. So the NC State Department of Transportation built a freeway
connecting them to the Asheville Regional Airport and Interstate 26. Us-65,
the other connector to Brevard, is a terrible — and frequently dangerous —
road so folks usually use NC-280. This is Mills River territory and what do
great highways do? They bring in businesses and Mills River felt in danger
of being annexed by Asheville (which is very hungry for taxes) or Fletcher.
Solution, they harnessed some politicians and got permission to incorporate.
They even got their own ZIP code; unfortunately, the USPS hasn't learned it
yet so much of their mail disappears. Real estate agent in Mills River:

Naples
— Naples is next door to Fletcher. Fletcher is in an expanding mood and has
learned from Asheville's example that annexations bring in more
tax revenue but don't cost that much to meet the legal
requirements. So residents in Naples are worried (except those
with land to sell) and Fletcher tries to calm them by by stating
Fletcher has no current plans to annex Naples. So just what is Naples? Its an Interstate exit quickly growing more new businesses and it is a large, full-service hospital. Most of the rest is (or was) farm land ripe for commercial investments. Real estate agent in Naples:
